Dr Susan Bennett is the Founder and Executive Director of InfoGovANZ and an independent lawyer and governance expert. Susan’s focus on driving best practice holistic governance solutions - aligning data, information, privacy and records with technology and regulatory compliance to achieve organisational goals, led her to found InfoGovANZ in 2016. The mission of InfoGovANZ is to break down the information silos among professionals to enable more connected thinking and innovation for information governance best practices and help drive more holistic solutions, particularly for data privacy and cybersecurity.
Recognised for her global thought leadership in information governance, Susan brings thirty years of deep commercial, litigation and corporate governance expertise. This stems from her background as a senior litigation partner utilising technology in document and data production and the evolution of information governance in response to the growing legal and regulatory compliance challenges, particularly in privacy, cybersecurity and AML laws. Susan works with Boards, senior executives and cross-functional multi-disciplinary teams on governance and data-driven technology transformation projects to minimise risks, comply with regulatory requirements and deliver on organisational objectives.
Susan completed her Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney Law School on 'Privacy and Data Protection: the interaction of meta-regulation and information governance.' Susan's research and findings are intended as a practical governance solution to assist organisations in achieving data and privacy regulatory requirements, while pursuing strategic organisational objectives in complex and data-driven operating environments.
Susan also holds a Master of Business Administration (AGSM) and a Master of Laws (Syd) and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional - Europe (CIPP/E) and a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT). Susan is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia (FGIA), a Fellow of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (FIP), a member and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). As an EDRM Global Advisory Council member, Susan is a Project Trustee for the eDiscovery Primer in the APAC region.
Susan is the Principal of Sibenco Legal & Advisory. and holds an Unrestricted Practising Certificate. Susan is admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia, and the High Court of Australia. Click here to read more about Susan's work and biography here.
